San Kiliba Activities

Let San Kiliba be your gateway to discovery, exploration, adventure and excitement! We offer a wide variety of experiences - from quiet nature hikes to exhilarating canoeing on The Gambia river - designed to engage visitors of all ages and interest levels. 

We invite you to discover our 6 hectare cultural forest and the creatures which call it home. Push the boundaries and explore the surrounding area on foot or by water. Get to know the local community come and experience the out-of-the-ordinary. Experience San Kaliba Eco Lodge!


Adventures in Agriculture will take you behind the scenes to learn first hand about the cultivation and processing of these important products.



Moringa
Learn the hands-on secrets of making your own Moringa oil, ointments, leaf powder, cooking recipes, purifying water and how to grow and cultivate organic Moringa. San Kiliba Moringa Farms wants to try and teach others about this tree’s rapid growth and nutritional values that helps improve lives, which is why we have partnered with many groups and individuals with the goal of making people more aware of all the benefits the Moringa Tree has to offer.

Baobab

Learn more about this The African tree of life. For centuries, people across Africa have enjoyed the baobab fruit's refreshing vitamin-filled diet. Naturally dehydrated, it is credited with medicinal properties, ranging from a cure for fever or diarrhoea to a calcium-rich pick-me-up. The tree normally lives for about 500 years. But it is believed some are up to 5,000 years old and they enjoy the veneration and respect traditionally accorded to age in Africa.

The Forest Walk
Explore the stunning forest including a visit to the sacred Sankiliba tree. Enjoy swimming in the beautiful mangroves of The River Gambia and the excellent opportunity to experience the incredible diversity of the indigenous wildlife. Birders watchers are in heaven!

The Boat Trip
Make your way through the thin stretch of forest to The River Gambia where a boat will be waiting to take you on a leisurely journey through the majestic mangroves, with plenty of time for fishing and swimming.

Kunteh Kinteh Island
The boat trip to the island follows the slave trail from Sankiliba to Brefet village. The tour allows ample opportunity to discover the history of this former colonial fortress island that has been brought to prominence by Alex Hayley's book, 'Roots'.

Cooking Class with Local Community Members
This class taught by a local community member, will offer you the opportunity to learn how to make traditional Gambian dishes.  You will learn about each fresh ingredient, and everyone participates in the cooking process.
